Latest TSHA Street Hockey Report

The TSHA Street Hockey Report goes out by email every Monday (or thereabouts) to keep members informed about how games went and also any news and information relevant to TSHA members. It's also part of our regular email RSVP system used by the TSHA for members to sign up for games and know when and where our next game is. In other words, you can read it here, but if you want to be sure to know if you should head on down to the park to play next Sunday, sign up on our Join page .

Street Hockey Report for Monday 17th November 2008

1. Venimus, Vidimus, Vicimus

The TSHA reigned supreme at the Kariya tournament. A full write up, by Ted, is already in the works and will be on the web site soon.

As a general break down, there wasn't really much competition, as most of the tournament is really focused on cultural exchange, and getting people interested in ball hockey. So a lot of the teams were casual groups of beginners, and we played them just for fun.

The real game was the last one, against a team from Mississauga, Ontario. Mississauga is Kariya's sister city, so they were brought over as part of an overall international friendship program type thing. Pretty good deal for them, so far as I can tell.

Anyway, they were a decent team, and we had to bring our real game to beat them. But we did, and did so decisively. The score, 2 to 0, doesn't really reflect the fact that we played a tight, well organized game, and dominated the play. They made us work for it, but ultimately we dictated the flow. The score could have been higher, but their goal tender was really quite good, and was the key to keeping them from being completely dismantled.

It did rain, but that's okay. It was more than made up for by the fact that the organizers of the event showered us with blueberry pancakes, omelettes, t-shirts, victory beers, chocolates, oranges, cookies... not to mention a huge ass trophy. Which we didn't get to bring back with us, but made for some nice photos.

Finishing off the day with a dip in a local onsen, it was an awesome day trip.

2. Wanna Go To An Art Show Thing?

This coming Saturday, there's this art show thing being run by a friend of mine. It's going to have burlesque dancers and stuff, and lots of drinking, and should be pretty cool. At least one of the drawings on display will be mine, so that's kind of why I'm bringing it up. That and I promised the organizer I'd tell everyone I know about it.

Come down if you can. Details are here: http://drsketchytokyo.com/

3. Back To The Grind

The TSHA will resume it's Sunday afternoon games this week, so sign up and come on down. We'll be playing at Asakusa park, from 1 PM, as per usual. Remember, if you're not there by 2 PM, you need to bring doughnuts for everybody!
